How CPBL attendance numbers turned into an actual business

I built a model from public data, and now a club pays me for it.

Two years ago I started tabulating CPBL attendance, weather, matchups and starting pitchers, purely because I wanted to know whether a weekend game would be crowded.

Then I used it to forecast attendance, landing within about 8%. Last year a club’s marketing department found me, and now they pay a monthly retainer and use it to schedule promotion days.

You can do this too

All the data is public: the league site, the weather bureau, the clubs’ starting-pitcher announcements. What you need isn’t a better model. It’s six months of doing it consistently.
