A day with an evening news anchor, now that the station also does live and vertical

In at ten, on air at seven, and four hours in the middle shooting vertical video.

We followed an evening news anchor for a full day. The hours have not changed. The work has: the afternoon used to be script reading, and it is now shooting short video.

A day’s output is one evening bulletin, three to five vertical social clips, and a fifteen-minute lunchtime live stream. Three formats, three ways of speaking.

The same story, told three times, differently each time

The broadcast version runs 45 seconds, scripted and formal. The vertical version is 15 seconds, unscripted, one point only. The live version is three minutes and has to answer comments. He says the third is hardest, because the comments pull the topic away from him.

The station’s numbers are blunt about it. The evening bulletin converts to roughly 400,000 viewers. On social, two clips a month clear a million views.

This is the shift across Taiwanese legacy media over the past two years. Headcount has not grown, output formats have tripled, and so every job description has been taken apart and rebuilt.
