Inside APT Taipei: a beginner’s first day, from registration to busting, in full

I’m not here to teach you how to play. I’m here to tell you what your first time is actually like.

Arrived at APA at 11:20. The registration queue took about 20 minutes, and the person ahead of me asked staff three times what re-entry meant while filling in the form. So if you don’t know either, don’t be embarrassed.

Cards in the air at 12:00. Nine at my table, two of them obvious regulars: you could tell from the way they talked to the dealer. I didn’t play a hand for three levels. I just watched.

How I busted

Level eight. I 3-bet A♠K♠ from the cutoff, the button 4-bet, and I jammed. He had Q♣Q♦. No ace, no king. Looking back, I still had 38BB and there was no need to get it in.

{"q":"The single most useful thing I did: after busting I railed the next table for an hour. You learn more that way than by playing."}

Total spend: 50,000 for the main, 300 on transport, 180 on lunch, 120 on a coffee. I was there five and a half hours.
