Free-to-play vs NT$ 300 a month: the same mobile game, thirty days, two accounts

Two accounts, same start date, an hour a day. On day thirty the gap is not power. It is time.

Time for A to match B
41 more hours

We opened two accounts on the same day and played each for an hour a day. Account B bought the monthly pass (NT$ 300) and nothing else — no gacha pulls.

On day thirty, B’s power rating was about 18% higher than A’s. The number worth looking at is the other one: for A to reach where B is now takes another 41 hours of play.

A monthly pass buys time, not strength

What the pass mostly grants is daily stamina and speed-up items. Its direct contribution to power is small, but it makes each daily hour go further. Over thirty days that compounds into 41 hours.

Divide NT$ 300 by 41 hours and you get NT$ 7.3 an hour. That number is the useful one: you are buying time back, so price it against your own hourly rate and decide.

{"q":"After doing the maths the pass looked reasonable to me, and the gacha looked completely unreasonable.","by":"A player we followed"}

This only holds for games with a monthly pass. In pure gacha games NT$ 300 does not even cover one ten-pull, and that is a different calculation entirely.
